Today we’re demanding that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service stop stalling and perform its legal duty to remove the wood stork from the federal ‘endangered’ list. It has been 18 months since the government’s own scientists determined that the wood stork should no longer be listed as ‘endangered.’ Regulators have an obligation to follow through and drop the listing. It should not take government a year and a half to do its job.
President Obama has pledged to put science ahead of politics or ideology in decision-making. Our challenge to the scientifically unjustified listing of the wood stork as ‘endangered’ gives the administration a chance to put the president’s promise into practice.
